Wind Mitigation Inspection
A Florida Wind Mitigation inspection uses State of Florida Form # OIR-B1-1892. This form can only be filled out by a State of Florida Certified home inspector who has taken the required Hurricane mitigation training and passed a competency exam, a certified Building Code Inspector, a certified Residential, Building, or General Contractor, a licensed engineer, or a licensed architect.
The purpose of this inspection is to determine the methods used in the construction, repair, or remodeling of the home which would minimize, or, mitigate, hurricane damage. If your home contains certain features, or was built under recent building codes which require those features, then you are eligible for premium discounts with many home-owners insurance policy carriers. Photographic evidence of the features is required to be submitted with the report.
